Lao-Tsu: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step."TRADITIONAL ACUPUNCTURE:Definition: Traditional acupuncture is a healing art based on the laws of nature. It can support the body/mind to heal, prevent further deterioration and ill health, and maintain balance and good health.Acupuncture supports whatever nature will allow within each individual, treating the person with the symptom, not just the symptom. As a result, the amount and timing of treatments, as well as the response to treatments, will vary according to each person. WHO COMES FOR ACUPUNCTURE?People who come for acupuncture are already interested in health and well-being. They are committed to an outcome of health and vitality and see themselves working collaboratively with the acupuncturist.WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT FIVE ELEMENT CONSTITUTIONAL ACUPUNCTURE?Chinese medicine observed, over 2000 years ago, that the world is made up of five elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood and that we too are made up of these elements. These elements are really phases of energy in nature and in us.Five Element Constitutional Acupuncture diagnoses imbalances in these five phases of energy in each person and restores balance and harmony. The result is a sense of well being and health within body, mind and spirit. GETTING STARTED:There are two ways to begin: If you are ready to start, contact Ann by email or by phone to schedule your first appointment. If you have questions and are not sure, arrange to come in for a free, thirty-minute consultation to discuss your questions. The initial session; The first visit is for an ASSESSMENT of your health using both western and eastern tools; a DIAGNOSIS is made, a TREATMENT PLAN is discussed and you receive your first ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT. The time allotted is one and 1/2 to 2 hours for this first session. It depends on your particular treatment plan. Usually I see patients once a week for 4-6 treatments and then we re-evaluate the progress. Time allotted for treatments is 45 minutes to 1 hour for each person. Only one person is seen at a time. ASSISTING WITH YOUR TREATMENTS:1. When coming to the initial session, please refrain from using make-up, perfumes and powders. Wear comfortable clothes.2. Eat lightly and do not skip a meal right before treatment. 3. Avoid extremely hot or cold showers, baths or hot tubs. 4. Do not rush to your treatment. If you are running late, relax and arrive less stressed and tense. 5. Plan your activities so that after a treatment, especially the first few treatments so you can let your body gain the maximum benefit. 6. Do continue prescription medications exactly as directed by your physician. 7. Refrain from drinking alcohol immediately before a treatment and for 24 hours after a treatment. 8. Be aware of changes: Please keep track of any changes in physical or emotional patterns that occur between treatment sessions, especially paying attention to the first day or two after a treatment. Do not be concerned if you feel changes happening. They are important to your healing process. Your practitioner will monitor them. PLEASE do not hesitate to call if you have ANY questions or concerns about your treatments or any changes that occur. WHAT OUTCOMES CAN I EXPECT?It is more useful to ask: Can this particular person be helped by acupuncture treatment? I diagnose in a holistic way, evaluating overall balance of vitality rather than only looking at isolated symptoms. I consider both physical and mental symptoms since they are linked and one affects the other. Patients often say, "I feel better inside myself," or, "I can't put my finger on it but I find I am handling stress with more ease and patience," or, "My symptoms are less intense and less frequent."Many times people report improved sleep, enhanced mood, increased ability to relax, positive changes in appetite and digestion and a greater sense of their own vitality. HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR TREATMENTS:Chinese medicine relies on one's own energies. To gain maximum benefit, respect your body/mind and live with moderation within the laws of nature. This includes getting adequate rest, healthy nutrition, moderate exercise and avoiding excesses of sugar, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol and processed foods.Acupuncture can be complementary with other care you are receiving from your primary care physician and prescription drugs, your psychotherapist, chiropractor, your body worker and physical therapist. If you would like me to confer with your other health care providers, I am happy to do so. PAYMENT AND INSURANCE and CANCELLATIONS:Our office does not accept insurance but will be glad to provide you with a properly coded medical bill which can be submitted to your insurance company or flexible spending account for reimbursement.Payment is made at the time of your appointment. Check or cash only. Kindly give 24 hours notice to change or cancel an appointment.FOR MORE INFORMATION:Contact Ann Bailey at 310/462-3663 or email: annbailey1@mac.com |
